Lake Shelbyville Fishing Report

Fishing Report October 1-15

The lake level is 597.82 or roughly two-feet low. Water is gin clear everywhere since we have little rainfall in two months. Water temps are running 73-78 warming as day goes on. All summer the bait fish have remained shallow up on the flats especially the north end. Millions of bait fish and the Pelicans are taking full advantage. I am seeing them from as small as three-inches up to over six. So several hatches. "WHITE BASS" Early in the morning until the sun pops over the tree line or about 9am the white bass are feeding heavily on the [...]

September 15-30

The lake level is at 598.12. Normal summer pool is 599.7 or roughly a foot and a half low. Water temps today was 77 and gin clear. Not much has changed since last report. I am watching the Pelicans every morning. They are on or near bait fish. Shad are busting on flats until about mid morning up on the north end. "WHITE BASS' I am throwing my spoon/hair jig combo like I have been for over a month. Up on flats or on the edge. I motor along the edge watching my side imaging for clouds of bait. Plus [...]

Fishing Report September 1-15

The lake level is at 598.29. Normal summer pool is 599.77. So about a foot and a half low. Water temps are all over the place. 73 in the morning 79 in the afternoon due to our up and down weather. Some night been getting down to 49 degrees. Water color very clear everywhere except extreme north end that has a lot of carp and boat traffic stirring it up. Are we in fall transition I say not yet I am still catching my fish same spots last month or so and same methods of doing so. Here is what [...]

Fishing Report August 16-30

The lake level is 598.62 or roughly 16in. low. Water color is gin clear all over the lake but the extreme north end. The carp and baitfish have it all stirred up. Water temps are back to 83-85. Weather has been hot and that fires up the white bass. A strong south wind comes with it and that helps fishermen and bunching up the white bass. Extended forecast has it cooling off mid-week. I am still doing combo trips for at least another month. The white bass fishing has been very good and catching enough crappie on minnows as well. [...]

Fishing Report August 2-16

The lake is about 6in. low or 599.15. Thursday brought in a severe cold front and I saw water temps drop from almost 90 down to 75 in just 36 hours. It is bounced back to 80 as of August 2nd. Lake is gin clear about everywhere. What this has done is move my white bass and put crappie on wood. One door closes another opens. "CRAPPIE" With water temps dropping so quickly the last three days I have seen crappie fishing improve. We have been able to catch fish under ten-inches without any problems but now I am seeing [...]
