The lake level is 597.66 or roughly 2ft. low looks like three to me. Water temps are 65 down about 10 degrees in the last week. No rain in a month means clear water everywhere.
I have put away the white bass rods and now I am concentrating on crappie only. The cold nights we have coming up messes with the bait so whites are not easy to find.
“CRAPPIE”
Over the last week I have seen a movement of crappie from the cubes to shallower cover. Be it manmade stumps, down trees, brush piles. All on the north end. I haven’t fished down the lake now in a few weeks. There is so much more bait up on the north end. Every year I say this is more bait than I have ever seen but this year it really is.
Since I have four in the boat including myself most days I am still throwing my slip bobber and minnow rig. Marking off shallow structure in the 4-10ft. range and watching where to throw with my Livescope. I then tell clients throw right where I am. You can watch reactions and on these calm days I am putting my minnow right above a crappie, let him see it then take it away. They chase it down and a lot of days that is the only way they will hit it.
I like to switch over to jigs once the water temps fall below 60 but this year I have three person trips all the way up to my departure for Kentucky Lake. Easier to use slip bobbers. I leave in two weeks so this is my last fishing report for 2025
