The lake level is 600.00. Summer pool is 599.7 so very close. The water temps are running 67-71. The lake is very clear about everywhere.
“Crappie”
We are concentrating on stumps off flats or Shelbyville Cubes mid-lake to south end. All with a slip bobber and a minnow. Better grab a bunch as we are going through about ten dozen a day. Depth on my slip bobber rig runs from 9-14ft. depending on the cover. I fish this way all summer simply because I have three in the boat most days and we all can fish off the side of my big tiller boat and have seats to set in all day. Older clients love this. I even have three minnow tanks all within reach so they never have to get up. I move about thirty times a day to help with getting a better shot at crappie over ten-inches. This lake is full of 9-inch fish right now so staying put you are just feeding them. You will get the larger fish pretty early after you pull up. As we get more into a summer pattern water temps mid-70’s to low 80’s. The crappie fishing will get better. They love getting on the Shelbyville Cubes for great shade. There are thousands of them on the lake.
“White Bass”
I am still pulling single hook spinner rigs on very windy days on edges of big flats. I do this in hopes of getting a big sauger or walleye. However very soon those rods will come out of the boat because my spoon/hair jig combo is working well casting parallel to edges of flats and sides of points. Nothing more fun than getting two on at the same time. I even have several guides using them with great success. White bass is 90& looking for them and 10% catching. As we get more into summer they will bunch up better. Start watching for surface busting action I always see this around Father’s Day.
I sent out an email blast a few days ago to well over 4000 clients and my July dates are filling pretty quick so don’t hesitate. Everyone loves my Crappie/White Bass combo trips I run all summer. Give me a call at 217-840-1221 or email me from my website. Lake Shelbyville Guide.com
