Water temps are 78-80. The lake is still falling back to summer pool. Dropping almost 4in. a day. This morning still up 2ft. About a week and we are finally back to normal. Water is gin clear all over the lake.

“WHITE BASS”

Whites love the heat and with that comes a nice southwest breeze and pop up showers. All those represent a white bass beat down and that is exactly what I have been doing for a month. Just two days ago a single client and I caught 151 before noon.

I idle along the leading edge of a point or a ledge with wind blowing into or across it with my side imaging. Soon as I see clouds of bait I drop a waypoint turn around and start casting my spoon/hair jig combo into the school allow it to fall to the bottom, pop it off bottom let it fall again. Fish just attack it all the way back to the boat. Doubles are not uncommon but more the norm. Nothing I would rather be fishing for in August-Early October.

“CRAPPIE”

Finally the Thermocline and the current might subside and the some 3000 Shelbyville cubes will come into play. I love to drift a lively minnow across them with a slip bobber and a 1/4oz. weight to keep it vertical as it drifts by. With Livescope you can check depth and even see fish charge up out of them to get your minnow. I still think staying back and drifting minnows across them is the best way to fish cubes. Buy plenty of minnows we routinely go through ten dozen on a guide trip. The best of this seasons crappie fishing is coming. Fall is by far my favorite.
