Water levels are 600.80 or roughly one foot above summer pool. Outflow below the dam has almost stopped. The water temps are 77-80 and the lake is very clear.
“WHITE BASS”
I am still throwing my hair jig spoon combo on flats where I see seagulls and pelicans. That means food is present. Also if you are not getting hit by the millions of yellow bass your in the wrong spot. Getting out early is very helpful so you can see where the birds are. These fish are shallow 1-6ft. Being in the right spot critical as it seams to be over about 10am unless the wind is really blowing bringing in more shad. A regular and me two Sunday’s ago set in one spot and caught 152. Windy that day. Once it slows down we switch up to crappie…..
“CRAPPIE”
With lake levels near normal the crappie have returned to the many thousand Shelbyville Cubes. Each one is different I like the multiple cubes tied together. More real estate to drift a slip bobber and minnow over. I have three clients in the boat most of the time and have found out drifting a slip bobber rig and a lively minnow about the best method. This allows you to stay back. We use a 1/4oz. weight on my rigs so vertical drifting across them is possible. I won’t really start jig fishing until the water temps drop into the high fifties.
“KENTUCKY LAKE”
I will be guiding on Kentucky Lake the entire month of September so no Shelbyville fishing report. Will be back on the lake in October so reports will resume.
