The lake is about 6in. low or 599.15. Thursday brought in a severe cold front and I saw water temps drop from almost 90 down to 75 in just 36 hours. It is bounced back to 80 as of August 2nd. Lake is gin clear about everywhere. What this has done is move my white bass and put crappie on wood. One door closes another opens.

“CRAPPIE”
With water temps dropping so quickly the last three days I have seen crappie fishing improve. We have been able to catch fish under ten-inches without any problems but now I am seeing the larger fish show up with their bellies just gorging with shad and poop running out of them. The type of structure I am seeing them on is both standing timber and rootballs in the 6-10ft. range all over the north end. Cubes have the fish beside them rather than in them. All of these scenarios mean my slip bobber rigs are hard to hit such small targets. I have the three seat system back in the boat and we pull up to the structure all watching my 16in. Livescope screen. Tight lining a minnow rig. Pretty cool watching the whole thing unfold and the crappie hit your bait. We can even pick out the larger fish. We bounce back and forth between crappie and whites all day fishing two totally different techniques.

“WHITE BASS”
For three weeks all through the heat I have been fishing mid-depth ledges all over the north end with my spoon hair jig combo. Some days staying right on the drop-off and vertically jigging it under the boat. Then others casting it up on the flat and allowing it to go to the bottom then pop it off catch up with your slack and do it again. Water temps were from 84-90 this got it all started at about 84. Then severe summer cold front dropped water temps from 90 to 75 in 36 hours. They just disappeared!!!! The forecast has the wind switching back to the south on Friday the 8th and warming back up so I am not worried it is early August the heat isn’t done. Besides we catch them pretty well into early October.

“KENTUCKY LAKE”
I am down to November 5,11,17,20,26,27 for fishing with me on Kentucky Lake for the big crappie. We all stay at The Lake Lodge a beautiful place and it really is a bucket list spot to fish. Never crowded and weather much warmer than here in November. I am down on The Big Sandy in Tennessee. Give me a call and jump on one of these spots. 217-840-1221
