Call or e-mail for lake guides running through this website. My cell is 217-840-1221 Home 217-762-7257 and you can e-mail from this site or use my home e-mail SteveWelch@mchsi.com. We now have three and possibly a fourth guide ready to serve you so getting a quality fishing trip on Lake Shelbyville is as easy as can be.

Water temps are running between 65-70 and the male crappie have hit the bank all over the lake. Recent rains has the lake rising so the fish are pulling even shallower. Was about six-feet now catching them in about three-feet. Just look for clearer coves and the crappie are all over the shallows.

Jig under a cork or live bait under a cork. Just keep moving until you run into them.

I have been getting reports of the walleye/sauger being caught coming back down from the Kaskaskia after spawning so it won’t be long and they will be set up on points around wood on flats as well around scattered wood.

Blade baits like the Big Dudes will cover lots of water in the shallows as will a jig and twister tipped with an inch of night crawler. Then if you are real serious pull 1 1/2oz. Bottom bouncers and a single hook spinner rig right on drops of flats at about .9-1.4 mph. Chrome, chartreuse, white and pink are the best colors for either the blades or spinners.

We have plenty of guides to suit your needs so better contact us.

Lake Shelbyville
Fishing Report

As most of you know I am laid up with major shoulder surgery. I had to cancel all my spring guide trips and won’t be able to fish for some time.

I am however helping a new guide get going and doing some booking of trips for him and a couple others on Lake Shelbyville. All are very qualified and have been crappie fishing this lake for many years. If interested give me a call or e-mail me and I can get you set up for some great spring fishing action.

The fishing report from my guides the last two days is the water temps are running 65-70 and the male crappie have hit the bank and they are just starting to turn dark from the spawn. The lake is rising due to recent rains so this will pull even more crappie to the shallows. My guides are flat out hammering them so you better get in touch with us as we have plenty of open trips left.

I am getting reports of the walleye and sauger coming back to the lake from spawning up in the Kaskaskia. They will stop on points and flats with wood around them.

Your best baits are Big Dude blade baits or jigs and twister tails tipped with an inch of crawler. Once the lake comes up some more you can pull bottom bouncers and spinners along drops. Either way cover water you won’t hit more than a couple from any one spot.
