Fishing report for May 21-28. The floods has caused the lake to rise to 13ft. over summer pool so the crappie spawn kind of came to an abrupt hault. They are suspended down about fifteen feet in water as deep as fifty. They can still be caught and most are spider rigging with live bait. I have had good luck pulling bottom bouncers on line counters so we can actually fish them suspended and pull them right through standing timber. We make the single hook spinner rigs only about 18 inches long so they can be trolled through timber. We catch a ton of crappie doing this and many other species as well like what they are intended for walleye.

The normally very shallow flats all have scattered willows on them and anglers are both casting and pulling bouncers on the flats and the walleye and white bass are doing very well. Whites off the drops and walleye up on the flats.

Lake Shelbyville
Fishing Report

As most of you know I am laid up with major shoulder surgery. I had to cancel all my spring guide trips and won’t be able to fish for some time.

I am however helping a new guide get going and doing some booking of trips for him and a couple others on Lake Shelbyville. All are very qualified and have been crappie fishing this lake for many years. If interested give me a call or e-mail me and I can get you set up for some great spring fishing action.

Fishing Report May 21-28
A lot has happened the last few days. We have been pounded with more than ten-inches of rain and the lake has went from 596 ft. above sea level and is supposed to crest at 613 ft. That is seventeen feet of new water. Tons of places for fish to hide. The south end is still clear for now and most likely will remain clear through all this.

The crappie spawn is most likely over and they are now suspending out in about fifteen feet of water in post spawn areas like mouths of coves over standing timber. Anglers are spider rigging with live bait in schools and catching a lot of fish. We have had great success pulling bottom bouncers and spinner rigs on line counters so you can pull these spinners right through the schools and standing timber. We tip the single hook spinners with a minnow and you will catch about anything on them.

The walleye and white bass are up on the flats around stumps and willows. Anglers are both casting jig and twisters and pulling spinner rigs with good success. Right now this is your best bite going and the walleye bite doesn’t last forever so better get out there or give us a call and one of our guides can take you out.
